Ligamento anterolateral de la rodilla. Revisión de conceptos actuales

Resumen

En años recientes se ha generado gran interés en una estructura ubicada en la región anterior y lateral de la rodilla debido a su posible aporte a la estabilidad rotacional de la articulación. La estructura se ha denominado ligamento anterolateral. Hasta la fecha se han realizado estudios anatómicos, histológicos, imagenológicos y biomecánicos al respecto. El propósito de esta revisión es resumir las publicaciones que se han realizado sobre el ligamento entre 2007 y 2015. Se consultaron bases de datos en busca de artículos en inglés y en español que hicieran mención del ligamento anterolateral de la rodilla. Se encontró un total de 27 artículos en idioma inglés, de los cuales 24 eran artículos originales, 2 cartas editoriales y 1 memoria de póster. El ligamento anterolateral de la rodilla es una estructura real e independiente de la cápsula articular y del tendón del poplíteo, que está presente en la mayoría de pacientes. Al parecer, complementa las funciones estabilizadoras del ligamento cruzado anterior ya que aumenta su tensión cuando la rodilla se encuentra flexionada y en rotación interna.
