Abstract

Introduction: Knee arthroscopy is one of the most common interventions done by orthopedic surgeons all over the world. It takes lesser time to heal and lesser time to rehabilitate from than the open surgery, reason why today it is preferred over arthrotomy. The intention of the study is to describe general characteristics of patients that underwent this procedure.
Materials & Methods: Data were obtained from Fundación Clínica Shaio, the data base was queried to determine all patients that underwent knee arthroscopy and were explored associations between the variables. All the statistics contrast assumed a 95% of confidence.
Results: 105 patients underwent knee arthroscopy, with a media of 43 years old. Most of them were outpatients (98.1%), were found a median operative time of 1,90 hours and longer operative time in olders than 43 years old. All the other variables had the same distribution along the population.
Conclusions: Operative time takes longer in patients younger than 43 years old, because in this population the procedure is done with therapeutic purposes rather than diagnostic purposes.
Evidence Level: IV.
